Cairo occupies a historical position as one of the major capitals in the Arab world in particular and the world in general, with the steady increase in population and the increase in internal migration to it and the increase in the economic and intellectual growth of broad groups of the people and thus the increase in social, economic and political activity.
This led to an increase in transportation problems within Greater Cairo, and the government took care of the movement of people, and it became one of its first concerns.
By comparing the different countries of the world that have a metro, where there are 114 cities in different continents of the world that have metro lines, and Cairo ranks thirty-fifth in terms of lengths of metro lines. In Greater Cairo, it is an imperative and an important necessity.
