Prime Minister Inspects First and Second Phases of East Nile Monorail Project, Riding One of Its Trains Following his inspection of several projects in the New Administrative Capital, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, accompanied by Minister of Transport Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, inspected the East Nile Monorail project. The inspection covered the route from the New Administrative Capital's control center to Cairo Stadium Station in Nasr City, spanning 56.5 km and including 22 stations. The Prime Minister emphasized the significant importance of the sustainable, environmentally friendly green mass transit projects currently underway. He stressed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the expansion of the green mass transit network and the completion of all such projects according to their established timelines, given their crucial role in urban, industrial, and tourism development. The Prime Minister began his tour by inspecting the project's control and command center, which covers 85 acres and comprises 13 buildings. He received a briefing on the project's operational mechanisms, which monitor all systems along the track, control train movement, and supply the track with the necessary electrical power. The center also includes a major and intermediate overhaul building, where routine maintenance and major overhauls of trains are carried out; a train storage yard with a capacity for 40 trains; guard buildings; a train washing building; a train inspection area; a waste management and hazard storage building; a water management station; and a fuel station. The project includes eight main switches, in addition to a mid-distance storage yard. Following this, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport boarded the monorail train from the Justice City station in the New Administrative Capital to the Cairo Stadium station in Nasr City, passing through the stations of the first and second phases. The first phase, which is now open to the public, extends from the Justice City station in the New Administrative Capital to the Field Marshal Tantawi station. The Minister inspected the progress of operations and the quality of services provided to passengers. He also reviewed the readiness of the second phase, which runs from the Field Marshal Tantawi station to the Cairo Stadium station in Nasr City, for public operation. During the tour, the Minister of Transport explained that the monorail is a modern, air-conditioned mass transit system that offers the highest levels of service and comfort for citizens. He emphasized that it represents a significant leap forward in Egypt's mass transit system and encourages citizens to use modern public transportation instead of private cars. He further noted that the monorail project represents a major step forward in modern mass transit. It is characterized by being a fast, modern, and safe means of transportation that contributes to saving fuel consumption and reducing environmental pollution. It also helps alleviate traffic congestion on main roads and streets. Furthermore, the monorail is one of the most suitable modern transportation methods for implementation in areas where it is difficult to construct metro lines or traditional rail transport. It is also characterized by its ability to be implemented on streets with significant horizontal curves, while providing excellent service levels to citizens. At the same time, Engineer Kamel El-Wazir confirmed that the first phase of the project contributes to facilitating access to various residential areas and connecting Nasr City with New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital. This connection is linked to a number of key landmarks, including conference and exhibition centers, hospitals and medical centers, hotels, mosques, shopping malls, universities and schools, headquarters of local and international companies, and sports clubs. It also achieves integration with several vital axes and squares, and facilitates service interchange with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) at the Arts and Culture City station in the New Administrative Capital. The minister added that when determining the value of subscriptions, it was taken into account that the discount rate should reach 50% of the ticket value, so that the value of subscriptions (weekly - monthly - quarterly) constitutes a quarter of the value of alternative transportations, in order to make it easier for passengers. A discount of 50% of the full ticket value was also approved for passengers in the first phase on Fridays and Saturdays of each week, and on official holidays, for a period of three months, as an important step to enable citizens to visit the new capital and discover its modern landmarks and enjoy its distinctive civilized appearan
