The first phase of the East Nile Monorail, extending from Field Marshal Tantawi Station to Al-Adala Station in the New Administrative Capital, is now operational.
*The Minister of Transport boarded the monorail train from the Investors Station in New Cairo to the Government District Station in the New Administrative Capital, heading to the Ministry headquarters.
On a historic day for public transportation in Egypt, coinciding with the first day of operation of the first phase of the East Nile Monorail, extending from Al-Moshir Tantawi Station to Al-Adala Station in the New Administrative Capital, Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, accompanied by Major General Tarek Goweily, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels, boarded the monorail train this morning from the Investors Station in New Cairo to the Government District Station, heading to the Ministry of Transport headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. At the Investors Station, the Minister witnessed station staff welcoming passengers with flowers on the first day of operation. He then proceeded to the ticket windows and emphasized to the staff the necessity of providing all possible assistance to passengers. He then paid for his ticket and passed through the electronic gates to test the system that passengers would be using. The Minister stressed the importance of continuously informing passengers about the various payment methods available through the ticket windows and TVM machines (cash, Visa, or electronic wallet). The Minister then went to the platform on the second floor of the station, where he emphasized the importance of informing passengers about the glass doors on the platforms, which open only when the train arrives, as part of the safety and security system for passengers. The Minister then boarded the train. In the new capital, he met with a number of passengers who praised the monorail as a modern, air-conditioned means of transportation offering the highest levels of service. They emphasized that the operation of the monorail complements the opening and operation of several modern, sustainable, green mass transit systems serving citizens, representing a tremendous development in Egypt's public transportation system. They added that these systems encourage citizens to use public transportation instead of private cars. The Minister of Transport congratulated the Egyptian people on the launch of the first phase of the East Nile Monorail project, noting the tremendous development in modern mass transit systems launched during the presidency of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He pointed out that this day marks an important milestone in Egypt's public transportation system, especially since the monorail represents a major leap forward for these systems. It is characterized by being fast, modern, and safe, saving fuel, reducing environmental pollution, alleviating traffic congestion on main roads and streets, and attracting passengers to use it instead of private cars. Furthermore, it reduces noise due to the trains moving on rubber wheels. The monorail is also implemented in areas where it is difficult to construct metro lines and other rail transport systems. It is also distinguished by its ability to be implemented on streets with significant horizontal curves and offers distinguished service levels to citizens. He added that the first phase will contribute to facilitating access to various residential areas and neighborhoods in New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, connecting with a number of key landmarks such as conference and exhibition centers, hospitals and medical centers, hotels, mosques, shopping malls, universities and schools, headquarters of local and international companies, as well as sports clubs and stadiums. It will also connect with vital squares and axes in both cities. This phase also achieves service interchange with the Light Rail (LRT) via the Arts and Culture City station in the New Administrative Capital. He pointed out that the second phase of the project, extending from Al-Moshir Tantawi Station to the Stadium Station in Nasr City, will be operational for the public next month. Currently, training programs for Egyptian operating crews are being intensified in cooperation with Alstom International, as was done in the operation of the first phase. At the Government District station, the Minister walked to the Ministry headquarters in the Government District, emphasizing to the Chairman and leaders of the National Authority for Tunnels the importance of being present at all stations of the first phase to ensure the provision of the highest levels of service to passengers.
