Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport conducted an inspection tour of Cairo Metro Line 4 phase 1. This comes within the framework of the directives of His Excellency President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to expand the establishment of green, sustainable, clean, and environmentally friendly means of Mass public transport. He was met during the tour by the Chairman and senior officials of the National Authority for Tunnels. During the tour, the Minister of Transport reviewed progress on the 19 km long of Cairo Metro Line 4 Phase 1, which includes 17 stations (16 underground and 1 at-grade), the overall completion rate has reached 38.6%. Construction work is currently being carried out at the stations and tunneling work for the two Metro tunnels (one in each direction) using 4 tunneling boring machines (2 machines in each direction), has been completed by 46%. The Minister of Transport also inspected the stations located around the Grand Egyptian Museum, namely the (Grand Egyptian Museum, El-Remaya, and El-Ahramat stations), which have achieved implementation rates of 54.7%, 50.9%, and 43.4%, respectively. He explained that the reinstatement work in the area surrounding the museum has been completed by 98%, as the reinstatement work and external arrangement works for the stations in that area will be completed before the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that feasibility studies are currently under process for Cairo Metro Line 4 Phase 2, which extends for 31.8 km and includes 21 stations (6 elevated, and 15 underground stations). This phase would intersect with the planned Cairo Metro Line 6 at Sayeda Aisha Station, run along Salah Salem Street and Al-Nasr Road to El-Azhar University, and continue through Nasr City to interchange with the East Nile Monorail at El-Tayaran Station. From there, it would extend southeast to intersect the Ring Road at the Security Complex and Police Academy, then continue eastward on an elevated track along El-Sadat Corridor to reach First Settlement in New Cairo, passing through El Shabab, Al Yassmeen, and El-Banafseg districts. It then heads north, ending at the site of the overhaul workshop of Line 4, north of the intersection of the Ring Road with the Cairo/Suez Road, the end of Phase 2, from which a future branch is planned to be studied, extending to Cairo International Airport, to exchange service in the future with Cairo Metro Line 3 Phase 5, which is currently being studied. The Minister of Transport emphasized the importance of working around the clock and strict adherence to the project’s timeline, given the strategic significance of connecting the 6th of October city with New Cairo via the Metro network. The project will serve densely populated areas such as (Al-Haram, Faisal, Omraneya, Giza, Nasr City, Al-Azhar University, and New Cairo). He also revealed that the implementation of Phase 3 of the line from Hadaek El-Ashgar station to Al-Hosary Square is under study, extends for 16.3 km to serve the population along its route and provide a link to the West Nile Monorail at Al-Hosary station. Furthermore, the implementation of Phase 4 extending 38.7 km from the end of Phase 2 to the Capital Airport Station is planned to integrate with the LRT (Adly Mansour – 10th of Ramadan – New Administrative Capital). The Minister of Transport emphasizes the importance of Metro projects in connecting various areas and facilitating the movement of citizens, which supports development goals, and noted that the line is expected to transport approximately 1.5 million passengers daily upon completion.
