The Minister confirmed that the finishing touches for the first and second phases of the LRT electric train project are currently underway, in preparation for the start of trial operation during the coming period before their official opening. The project’s mobile units fleet, which will arrive successively according to the specified schedule The minister stressed that the work is going on 24 hours, and everyone is making every effort to complete the implementation of the project according to the specified schedule, as this project is considered one of the mass transportation that will serve the new republic whose rules have been established by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, noting that It will link the Greater Cairo Region with the new urban areas and cities in the east (New Cairo - the Administrative Capital) and will contribute to facilitating the movement of employees and expatriates from Cairo and Giza to New Cairo and the Administrative Capital, in order to integrate it with the third metro line at the stadium station in Nasr City, and with the train Electricity station in the City of Arts and Culture in the new administrative capital. It is noteworthy that the monorail project is being implemented in Egypt for the first time, and it will represent a great cultural shift in mass transportation, which are fast, modern, safe and environmentally friendly, save fuel consumption, reduce environmental pollution rates, and relieve traffic jams on main axes and streets. It attracts passengers to use it instead of private cars to reduce fuel and fuel consumption. The total length of the two monorail projects (East / West Nile) is 98.5 km with 35 stations. The capacity of each of the two monorail lines is 600,000 passengers per day. The monorail has 4 cars, and it is planned to increase the number of cars to 8 cars, with the increase in population density in the new urban areas it serves.
