Major General Issam Abdel Qader Wali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Tunnels, said that a group of lines and various electrical traction means are being implemented, the first of which is the metro network consisting of 5 lines, as part of the state's direction to convert mass transportation to green transportation. Wali added, in a speech during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's inspection of the pavilions of the fourth session of the Intelligent Transport, Logistics and Transformation of Green Transport Exhibition and Conference, today, Sunday, that the first and second lines of the metro are being upgraded. He pointed to the completion of 24 km, with 19 stations, of the third metro line, explaining that work is underway for the last sector of the third line, consisting of 15 stations and 17.8 km. He confirmed the completion of 80% of the tunnel excavation of the last sector of the third metro line, from Ataba to Kit Kat, north to Rod El Farag, and south of Cairo University, saying that the first phase of that will be opened for the sector next year. He added that work is underway on the fourth metro line, which starts from 6 October City to Rehab and New Cairo, adding: "We are working on the first phase with 17 stations, and there are 5 national companies implementing this sector." President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will inaugurate, on Sunday morning, the fourth session of the Smart Transport, Logistics and Green Transport Exhibition and Conference, which is held under his auspices. Bassam Rady, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the current session of the exhibition, which is held under the slogan "The Road to 2030", is attended by major international companies specialized in the fields of modern mass transportation, railways, tunnels, roads and ports of all kinds. In addition to identifying the qualitative leap and the great efforts that Egypt has witnessed in all components and aspects of this sector during the past years in integration with the modern system of the road network and axes at the level of the Republic, as well as the state’s strategy to focus on green, sustainable and environmentally friendly means of transportation, depending on new energy and renewable.
