The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport conducts an important tour of the first phase of the fourth metro line. In line with the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding the continuous monitoring of the Cairo Metro project, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, accompanied by Engineer Wagdy Radwan, Deputy Minister for Railways and Electric Traction, Major General Tarek Goweily, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels, and other senior officials and heads of implementing companies, conducted an important inspection tour of the first phase of Metro Line 4. The Minister inspected several stations along the route from the Grand Egyptian Museum to Fustat Station (Grand Egyptian Museum - El Remaya - Pyramids - Mariouteya - El Arish - El Matbaa - El Talbiya - Madkour - El Mesaha - Giza - Giza Square - El Rawda - King Saleh - Fustat). He reviewed the progress of civil works in the western section of Phase 1, where track installation has begun at Hadayek El Ashgar Station. Restoration work in the area surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum was completed before the museum's opening, reaching 100%. The Minister directed that restoration continue after the completion of surface works at each station. The team, led by Engineer Kamel El Wazir, also inspected the two tunnels of the project on El Haram Street, reviewing the progress of tunneling work for the two tunnels in the first section of Phase 1 (one tunnel in each direction). Four tunnel boring machines (two in each direction) are being used. The first machine has reached the Grand Egyptian Museum Station, the second El Remaya, the third El Talbiya, and the fourth El Matbaa, all according to the project's planned schedule. The Minister also inspected the tunneling section. On Al-Haram Street, the Minister emphasized that the massive work being carried out on this project embodies a great epic being executed by Egyptian engineers and workers through five specialized national Egyptian companies. The Minister also inspected the assembly of the two tunnel boring machines for the second part of the first phase of the line. The first machine will begin descending to Al-Fustat station in mid-January, with excavation of the first tunnel scheduled to begin in mid-March towards Al-Masaah station. The second machine will commence work on the second tunnel in mid-April, also from Al-Fustat station, towards Al-Masaah station. The Minister affirmed that this project is being implemented in accordance with the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to expand the establishment of green, sustainable, clean, and environmentally friendly mass transit systems. He noted that the leadership of the National Authority for Tunnels has been instructed to coordinate with specialists from the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities and Culture and Arts regarding the interior finishes of the Grand Egyptian Museum station to ensure they complement the museum and give the station a historical character. He added that the fourth metro line is considered the most important means of mass transit connecting the cities of 6th of October and New Cairo to the metro network. The line will provide passenger transport to densely populated areas including Haram, Faisal, Omraniya, Giza, Nasr City, Al-Azhar University, and New Cairo. It will also connect the heart of historic Cairo with the Giza archaeological site, home to the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, thus boosting tourism and alleviating traffic congestion on major roads. Upon completion, the line is expected to transport approximately 1.5 million passengers daily. He added that it is planned to implement 4 phases for the fourth line as follows: Phase One (Hadaeq El Ashgar - El Fustat) with a length of 19 km and 17 stations (16 underground - 1 surface) and it intersects with the first metro line at King Saleh station and with the second metro line at Giza station; Phase Two (El Fustat - New Cairo) with a length of 26.9 km and 21 stations (6 elevated - 15 underground) and it intersects with the sixth line at Sayeda Aisha station; Phase Three (Hadaeq El Ashgar - El Hosary Square in 6th of October City) with a length of 16.3 km and 10 stations, which is a very important phase and its implementation achieves the connection with 6th of October City; Phase Four (New Cairo - Capital Airport) with a length of 38.7 km and 8 stations, and the service is transferred with the light electric train (El Salam - 10th of Ramadan - New Capital) at Capital Airport station.
