As part of the ongoing monitoring of service and development projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport in the Upper Egypt governorates, Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, conducted an inspection tour. He was accompanied by Engineer Abdel-Mottaleb Amara, Governor of Luxor; Dr. Khaled Mahmoud, Governor of Qena; Major General Dr. Abdel-Fattah Serag, Governor of Sohag; Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minya; Major General Magdy Abdel-Hamid, Deputy Minister of Transport for Land Transport; Major General Tarek Abdel-Gawad, Head of the Roads and Bridges Authority; and Dr. Tarek Gweily, Head of the National Authority for Tunnels. The tour aimed to monitor several projects being implemented by the Ministry of Transport along the Luxor-Sohag line. The Minister reviewed the progress of the second line of the high-speed electric train network (October/Aswan/Abu Simbel), which is 1100 km long. Specifically, he inspected the 200 km stretch from Luxor to Sohag, passing through stations in Luxor (serving residents and visitors to the area, Luxor International Airport, and tourist sites in the governorate) and Qus (serving the Qus district). Residential communities and adjacent industrial areas, located near the Qena-Luxor Eastern Desert Road with the Martyr Bassem Fikry-Qena Axis, serving New Qena City, residents and visitors of the governorate, and neighboring industrial areas; located on the Western Desert Road and near the Qena-Aswan Eastern Road-Deshna, serving Deshna Center and its residential communities; located near the Qena-Assiut Western Road; Naga Hammadi, serving industrial areas, including the aluminum factory, agricultural areas, and residents and visitors of the area; located near the Qena Western Desert Road; Farshout, serving Farshout Center, residential communities, and adjacent industrial areas; located near the Assiut Western Road with the Kharga Road on the Western Desert Road; Abydos, serving agricultural areas, residents, and visitors of the area; located near the Naga Hammadi Road with the Dar El Salam Axis; Sohag Station, serving Sohag Airport, the Gerga Industrial Zone, residents of the governorate, and the new urban community in New Sohag City; located on the Western Desert Road and near New Sohag City and Sohag Airport; Juhayna, serving Juhayna Center and its communities The residential area is located next to the Western Desert Road and the Juhayna-Tahta Road, serving the Tahta district, residential communities, and the industrial zone. It is situated at the intersection of the Tahta Axis and the Western Desert Road (Al-Ghanayem), connecting the Nile axes and serving the residents and visitors of the area and residential communities. It is also located at the intersection of the Tama-Al-Ghanayem Axis and the Western Desert Road.
- Assiut, serving the new city of Nasser, the new Future University, residents and visitors of the governorate, and Assiut Airport. It is adjacent to the new city of Nasser, Assiut Airport, and the Assiut Axis. - Minya, serving residents and visitors of the area, as well as the New Egyptian Countryside development and tourist areas in the governorate. It is considered an important attraction for the development of the region and the expected investments in Minya City and its desert hinterland. - Beni Suef/Fayoum, serving residents of both governorates. The Minister reviewed the timeline for completing all works and the passenger flow plan from the main entrance of the stations to the ticket halls and the movement between platforms, as well as the investment plan for each station. The Minister emphasized the necessity of establishing a freight station at the Qus station for the high-speed electric train to serve The industrial zone in Qena is operating around the clock, with all work being carried out according to high-quality standards, especially given the importance of the project, which will represent a tremendous leap forward in sustainable, environmentally friendly green mass transit in Egypt. He noted that the locations of the stations were generally chosen to be close to roads, residential areas, and intersections with the Nile River, to serve the residents of Upper Egypt governorates. All access roads to the stations will be free-flowing and serve all directions of traffic. Additionally, parking areas will be provided at the various stations to connect them with the surrounding towns and villages, facilitating access for travelers from all directions and from all nearby cities and villages. The Minister also followed up on the progress of the earthworks for the railway line, as well as the industrial works being carried out by Egyptian national companies. The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport also conducted an inspection tour of the industrial complex in New Qena City, built on an area of 150,000 square meters. This complex includes two factories for the production of concrete sleepers belonging to the Holding Company for Roads, Bridges, and Maritime Works, one of the companies of the Ministry of Transport. This complex is considered one of the largest sleeper production bases in the Middle East, supporting development and modernization projects in the railway system. He was received by His Excellency was accompanied by Engineer Ali Ayad, Managing Director and CEO of the Holding Company for Roads, Bridges, and Maritime Works.
The Minister inspected the B70 concrete sleeper factory, dedicated to the Egyptian National Railways, which includes two production lines operating on a long-line system with a production capacity of 816 sleepers per day. These sleepers are used on freight and passenger lines within the railway network. The Minister also inspected the RFI260 concrete sleeper factory, dedicated to high-speed rail projects. Established in October 2023, this factory operates on an advanced carousel production line with a production capacity of up to 1,400 sleepers per day. These sleepers are used on passenger and freight lines for the high-speed electric train. During his tour, the Minister emphasized that this visit is part of a plan to localize various industries in Egypt, including those related to railway projects, such as the manufacturing of concrete sleepers. He noted that the state is moving steadily towards localizing the manufacturing of railway equipment and that the factories inspected represent a cornerstone of this plan.
