Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, continued his inspection tours to follow up on projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport. The Minister, accompanied by Major General Maged Abdel Hamid, Deputy Minister of Transport for Land Transport; Major General Tarek Abdel Gawad, Chairman of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges; Major General Tarek Goueili, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels; the heads of the implementing companies and the project consultant, inspected the work sites of the first line of the high-speed electric train network (Sokhna/El Alamein/Matrouh), extending from the South Helwan area near the Nile Crossing Bridge to the Capital Station.
The tour began by monitoring the progress of the implementation and construction of the South Helwan Bridge over the Nile from the Tebbin Road (extension). Nile Corniche) to Cairo/Aswan Agricultural Road; With a length of 2.520 km, the implementation and construction rates of the East Nile Bridge, with a length of 2.720 km, were also discussed. The Minister directed that work be intensified and implemented according to high-quality standards, and that construction be completed on schedule. Following this, the Minister visited the final finishing touches of the Cairo stations in the Helwan area, Mohamed Naguib, and the Capital, which are interchange stations for the Light Rail Transit (LRT). The Minister reviewed the passenger flow plan from the main entrance of each station to the ticket halls, the movement between platforms, and the availability of elevators to facilitate passenger movement. He also reviewed the plan for optimal administrative and investment utilization of all spaces at the various stations, and the methods for connecting the stations to main roads. The Minister emphasized the need to implement all work according to high-quality standards, and for the stations to reflect the civilized appearance of this massive project.
During his tour, the Minister inspected a number of industrial projects, such as the bridge for the high-speed electric train over the Autostrad. He also witnessed the completion of the construction of the giant engineering project, the Khor Bridge, over the Wadi Degla Creek. The workers and engineers chanted, "Long live Egypt! Long live Egypt! Long live Egypt!" and thanked His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for implementing such giant projects that provide thousands of job opportunities for young people and achieve comprehensive development. They pledged to His Excellency and the great Egyptian people to continue the path of achievement and construction and to continue implementing the megaprojects. The Minister reviewed the implementation status of all industrial works in the project, where four bridges have been completed out of a total of 16 tracks, and 16 vehicle bridges out of a total of 55 vehicle bridges have been completed.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport also reviewed the sections of the track that have been and are being handed over to the Siemens/Orascom/Contractors consortium. (Arabs) to implement basalt laying works and install rails and electric catenary poles, after which electromechanical works will be implemented, as 388 km have been delivered in various sectors to Siemens out of a total of 660 km, and the remaining sectors are being delivered successively, as well as the rate of train supply, as the first regional train, which was manufactured in Siemens factories in Germany, arrived in Egypt several months ago, and the first high-speed Velaro train is scheduled to arrive in Egypt during September 2025.
