On the sidelines of the activities of the Smart Transport Exhibition and Conference, Smart Transport for the Middle East and Africa TRANSMEA2023 The Minister of Transport witnesses the signing of 4 contracts, 5 memorandums of understanding, and 1 framework agreement in the field of electric traction (the subway, the light electric train, and the high-speed electric train) between the National Authority for Tunnels and international and local alliances and companies. 1- Signing a contract for consulting services to prepare initial studies for the first line extension project (Helwan - New Marj) to Shibin al-Qanatar, between the National Tunnels Authority and the Spanish consulting office TYPSA. 2- Signing a memorandum of understanding to determine the conditions for signing to extend a contract for the rehabilitation, maintenance, development and modernization of (23) trains for the first line of the metro with the Spanish company CAF. 3- Signing a memorandum of understanding to determine the conditions for signing a contract between the National Tunnels Authority and the Spanish CAF Company to modernize and maintain 39 trains operating on the second line of the metro. 4- Signing the framework agreement to implement the fourth phase of the 10th of Ramadan railway project between the National Tunnels Authority, the Chinese Federation of AVIC Intel Companies, and the Chinese Railway Grand Bridges Engineering Group Company. 5- Signing a memorandum of understanding to implement the fifth phase of the light electric train (LRT) between the National Tunnels Authority and the Chinese company AVIC International (AVIC Intel). 6- Signing a memorandum of understanding to implement the work of an electric train project from Al-Rehab to the New Administrative Capital between the National Tunnels Authority and the Chinese AFIC International Holding Company (AFIC Intel). 7- Announcing the start of work on the electromechanical systems for the second and third lines of the high-speed electric train network. 8- Signing a memorandum of understanding between the Delta Development Coalition (DDC) and the Chinese company (CRIC) regarding the construction of the “Port Said/Abu Qir” high-speed electric train line, with a length of 250 km, using the BOT system. 9- Signing the contract for the implementation of civil works for the eastern part of the fourth line of the Greater Cairo Subway (Al-Massaha - Al-Fustat) New CP402 10- Signing a contract for the design, supply and implementation of electromechanical works for the stations of the first line of the high-speed train network (Sokhna - El Alamein / Matrouh) with a consortium of companies (Orascom Construction - Arab Contractors - Elsewedy Electric On the sidelines of the activities of the second day of the “International Exhibition and Conference for Intelligent Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics for the Middle East and Africa TRANSMEA2023”, Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir - Minister of Transport witnessed the signing of a number of contracts, agreements and memorandums of understanding in the fields of electric traction “subway - light electric train - electric high-speed train”. The Minister of Transport witnessed the signing of a contract between the National Tunnels Authority and the Spanish consulting office TYPSA to provide consulting services to prepare initial studies for the extension project of the first line of the Greater Cairo Metro (New Marj - Shebin El Qanater), with a length of about 19 km and a number of 14 stations to accommodate the increasing transportation demands along This path was signed by Dr. Engineer/Tariq Gowaili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Tunnels Authority, and by Mr. Antonio Rodriguez Castellanos, Regional Director of the Middle East, West and Central Asia Region - TYPSA, from the advisory office. The Minister of Transport confirmed that extending the first line to Shibin al-Qanater aims to expand the use of the metro network as a safe, modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation to reduce environmentally polluting emissions. It should be noted that the July 23/Shibin al-Qanater railway train will be canceled and replaced by the metro on an isolated track. To avoid accidents, it will also be integrated with other public and private means of transportation to reduce traffic congestion on the main axes and streets in the extension areas. The Minister explained that the contract includes the preparation of advisory services for the project, “transportation studies, economic feasibility, initial assessment of the environmental and social impact, study of the impact of the extension of the first line on operating characteristics, and preparation of initial technical specifications documents...etc.” within 8 months of entry into force. The contract is in effect and will be financed through a non-refundable grant from the Spanish government under the umbrella of the Spanish FIEM. He added that the first metro line is considered the backbone of the metro network. It is the first metro line implemented in the Middle East and Africa region and has been operating for nearly 40 years. It is also the highest density of metro lines in the world, transporting about 1.5 million passengers daily. The Minister of Transport also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the National Tunnels Authority and the Spanish CAF Company to determine the conditions for signing to extend a contract for the rehabilitation, maintenance, development and modernization of (23) trains for the first line of the metro, signed with the Spanish company, to include the maintenance of these trains for a period of 10 years, including spare parts, as It was signed on the Egyptian side by Dr. Engineer/ Tarek Gowaili, Chairman of the National Tunnels Authority, and on the Spanish company’s side by Mr. Javier Martinez, CEO of the company. The Minister of Transport confirmed that the first subway line is considered the backbone of the subway network, as it connects Greater Cairo from north to south. It is considered the first subway line in Africa and the Middle East to operate in nearly forty years, so the Ministry of Transport is keen to carry out permanent and continuous development work for this. The line to ensure the continuity of the service it provides, preserve its assets, and reduce the cost of maintenance and operation, including the fleet of mobile units operating the line. He explained that the Spanish company has provided the necessary funding for the rehabilitation, development and modernization of these trains through a soft loan from the Spanish government, and will provide facilities to finance the extension of the contract to include maintenance work. The minister added that the first of these trains had already been transported to the company's factory in Spain to study its condition and return it ​
