THE PRIME MINISTER INSPECTS THE WORK CURRENTLY UNDER IMPLEMENTATION IN CAIRO METRO LINE 4 - PHASE 1 10/09/2023 | 10:08 AM

Following his tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum today, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and his entourage, had inspected the works currently under implementation in Cairo Metro line 4 – phase 1 within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Arab Republic of Egypt, to expand the means of sustainable, clean, environment friendly, green mass transportation. The Prime Minister had inspected the stations within the scope of the Grand Egyptian Museum, where Lieutenant General/ Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, had explained that the implementation percentage of civil works at the museum station had reached 40.6% and at Al- Remaya station 35.6%. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly had also inspected the work of reinstatement in the area surrounding the museum, which was completed with a percentage of 82% in preparation for the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. In this context, the Minister of Transport indicated that the Metro line 4 extends for 42 km and includes 39 stations (37 underground stations + 2 ground stations), Metro line 4 is being implemented in two phases: the first phase is currently being implemented by Egyptian Contractors (Arab Contractors - Concorde - Petrojet - Hassan Allam Construction), which extends for a length of 19 km and includes 17 stations (16 underground stations + 1 ground station) from the west of the Ring Road on the borders of 6th of October City, passing through the Grand Egyptian Museum station, then Al- Remaya square, Al-Haram Street until the Giza station, Al-Malik Al-Saleh station, and Al-Fustat station in the Old Cairo area. The Minister had advised that the implementation of civil works in the western part has been completed by 23.5%, while 4 TBM machines are currently being assembled and equipped, pointing out that two TBM machines have been entered into the shafts near the Hadaek Al- Ashgar station, and two machines are being prepared for implementation at the Pyramids station. Concrete gaskets for the tunnel were manufactured; in preparation for starting of tunnel excavation work. The Minister of Transport stated that Metro line 4 is considered as the basic connection of 6th of October city and New Cairo to the metro network, as it provides a service to transport passengers to areas with high population density such as Al-Haram, Faisal, Omraniya, Giza, Nasr City, Al-Azhar University, and New Cairo. Metro line 4 is expected to transport about 2 million passengers per day, after the completion of the implementation of its two phases. The first phase also achieves passenger exchange service with Metro line 1 at Al-Malik Al-Saleh station and with Metro line 2 at Giza Station. The second phase also achieves service exchange with the Metro line 6 which is currently under study at Magra Al-Oyoun station. . The Minister of Transport also explained that, in accordance with the directives of the political leadership, a study is currently under implementation to extend Metro line 4 southward for a distance of 4.5 km on the ground to serve the sectors of 6th of October City located in the south of the Bahariya Oasis Road. Coordination is also taken place with the Japanese International Cooperation Authority (JICA) to provide the required fund for the studies of extending Metro line 4 to the New Administrative Capital.
