Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, accompanied by the President and leaders of the National Authority for Railways of Egypt and the National Authority for Tunnels, conducted an inspection visit to the railway equipment factory “SEMAF” affiliated to the Arab Organization for Industrialization, where he was received by Major General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, President of the Arab Organization for Industrialization.
This visit comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and the Arab Organization for Industrialization in the field of manufacturing mobile units for railways and metro.
Where the minister inspected one of the trains of the third line of the subway, which had been assembled at the Semaf factory in preparation for handing it over to the National Authority for Tunneling as part of the contract concluded between the National Authority for Tunneling and the South Korean Hyundai Rotem Company for the manufacture and supply of 32 new air-conditioned metro trains for the third line (22 trains were manufactured in Hyundai Rotem factories in South Korea and supplied them to the National Authority for Tunneling and they entered service - and it had been agreed with the company that the supplies, parts and components of the other 10 trains would be supplied to Egypt to be assembled in the Arab Organization for Industrialization. The assembly of 6 trains has been completed, including the train that was inspected today ).
This type of metro trains is characterized by a high-capacity air-conditioning system and is equipped with a safe corridor that allows passengers to move between carriages for more comfort in normal operating conditions, and is provided with television cameras installed at the front of the train for central monitoring of the railway.
There are also LCD screens inside the carriages to be used to provide passengers with information about the trip and can be used commercially in broadcasting paid commercial advertisements. There is also a screen above the doors to inform passengers of the name of the final station before boarding the train.
Then the minister went to inspect the production lines and the various workshops in the factory, including workshops for the subway, assembling electrical braids and finishing for the metro, preparing paint, railway and grain trains, surface trains for transporting goods, tippers, train spark plugs and plasma cutting machines, in addition to the hangar of the giant manufacturing machine (CNC). In cooperation with the German international company (DMG MORE), during the visit, models of goods and grain wagons and power wagons being produced in the factory for the Railway Authority were passed in the framework of following up on contracts.
The contract concluded between the two sides, such as a contract for the manufacture and supply of 1,000 goods wagons of different models (375 surface wagons - 300 tipper wagons - 150 tank wagons - 125 box wagons - 50 spring wagons). Grain wagons, where 25 wagons have been delivered, and the other 25 wagons are being tested for delivery, followed by the delivery of the last 25 wagons in this contract after conducting its own operating trials, as well as following up on the contract for manufacturing and supplying 73 power wagons to operate the air-conditioned wagons coming from Hungary.
The Minister of Transport confirmed in press statements on the sidelines of his tour that this visit comes within the framework of implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi - President of the Republic to work on the localization of heavy industries in Egypt, including the localization of the mobile units industry for railways and the metro, with the aim of meeting the permanent need of the ministry's bodies (the National Railways Authority). Egypt - The National Authority for Tunnels) from the mobile units and all the complements of this industry, whether (new purchase / repair / raising efficiency / maintenance) and railway components (signals - components - electrical panels and circuits for control - electrical braids ... etc.) within the framework The state plan to improve the transport service by railways and achieve a large economic return by limiting the import of mobile units / spare parts and relying on the Egyptian industry, which saves foreign exchange in addition to refining, training and qualifying Egyptian cadres (engineers / technicians) and benefiting from the transfer of experience from international manufacturing companies Achieving self-sufficiency in railway needs, which has a positive impact on Egyptian national security, with the possibility of expanding the industry and exporting products abroad, which has a significant impact on the Egyptian economy.
The Lieutenant General, the Minister of Transport, indicated that 7 factories are being established in cooperation with major international, international and national specialized companies, such as the French Alstom Company, to establish an industrial complex in Burj Al Arab in Alexandria to localize all the various railway industries. The company will establish this industrial complex, which includes two factories, the first for the production of systems. Electricity and railway components (signals - components - electrical panels and circuits for control - electrical braids ... etc.) Cooperation with the international Spanish company Talgo to set up a factory in the Kom Abu Rady area to manufacture passenger cars for railway trains, cooperation with the Spanish company Colway to establish a factory for the production of internal components for railway trains and means of mass transportation in Egypt, and cooperation with the Linza Egypt company to establish a factory for the production of railway spare parts And cooperation with Hyundai Rotem to produce metro cars at the Nerc factory in East Port Said, and cooperation with Hungarian Jans Mavage to produce railway cars at the Nerc factory, in addition to cooperation with Austrian Voist Alpine to produce railway switches Porsche Abbasiya by establishing a completely new line and modernizing the existing line in addition to cooperation standing with simav.
