The Cairo Metro Line 3 project - the Arab Republic of Egypt, won the award for the best Arab government project for infrastructure development, which is a vital artery linking east and west Cairo, as the project includes the largest interchange central station and the largest metro train maintenance workshop in the Middle East and Africa.
The project was implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, represented by the National Authority for Tunnels, where the award was received by Major General Sherif Hassan Lail, Head of the National Authority for Tunnels, on behalf of Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport. The winners of the award, which is sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and organized in cooperation between the UAE government and the League of Arab States represented by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development, were honored during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States. The ceremony witnessed the honoring of a number of pioneering Arab models that presented inspiring models in Arab government work, within 15 categories distributed into two main categories: individuals and institutions at the level of the Arab world; Where all nominations were subject to a systematic evaluation mechanism, by a specialized arbitration committee and in accordance with high international standards, with the exception of the UAE from participation, in order to preserve the principle of impartiality and transparency.
During the planning stage, the project relied on modern technical practices, identifying financial resources, equipment and labor through planning and financial regulation methods in cooperation with financing sources, in addition to using the latest technologies in building tunnels based on the best practices that have been seen and in line with the nature of the region. This is to make the most of the available resources.
And in search of sustainability, which has become one of the most important criteria that govern the future development of transportation, the project is an easy, fast and safe mass transportation that preserves the natural and social environment and the health of citizens to reduce environmental pollution and noise for its use of clean electric energy, so it is considered an environmentally friendly method from the initial stages of design and during periods Implementation and operation of the project. The project also represents a vital transport network that contributes to transporting 1.5 million passengers per day, with a length of 41 km, with 34 stations (21 tunnels - 2 surface - 11 upper).
