Signing a memorandum of understanding regarding advisory services for the preparation of preliminary studies for the first line extension project (Helwan - New Marg) to Shebin El Qanater between the National Authority for Tunnels and the Spanish Consulting Office Lieutenant General Eng. The minister stated that this memorandum is a statement of mutual intentions between the National Authority for Tunnels and the Spanish Consulting Office to prepare advisory services for the project, "transportation studies, economic feasibility, preliminary assessment of the environmental and social impact, and a study of the impact of the extension of the first line on operating characteristics, and preliminary technical specifications documents." ..) stressing that the signing of this memorandum at the Climate Conference aims to expand the use of rail transport by electric traction "the metro" to provide a safe, modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation, as emissions polluting the environment will be reduced. It is also the highest density among metro lines in the world, as it transports about one million passengers per day. It should be noted that the political leadership attaches utmost importance to the development of operating lines to improve the service provided to the Egyptian citizen, to preserve time and effort, and to reduce the queuing time to 2.5 minutes to accommodate the steady increase in the number of passengers and reduce congestion on the sidewalks, as well as to preserve assets and reduce maintenance costs, as works are currently being offered. First line systems development A contract was also signed with Alstom to manufacture and supply 55 trains for the first line, in addition to a contract with the Spanish company CAF, in cooperation with the Japanese company Mitsubishi, to rehabilitate 23 trains that were previously supplied about 25 years ago.
