Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed, in the presence of Lieutenant General, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding railway systems, railway works, and the manufacture and supply of mobile units for the Line Six project of the Greater Cairo Metro with a French alliance led by the French company Alstom.
The memorandum was signed by the National Authority for Tunnels, Dr. Essam Wali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Tunnels, and by the French company, Mr. Andrew Dellion, Regional President for Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, and Mr. Ramy Salah El-Din, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alstom Egypt transportation projects.
Lieutenant-General, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, confirmed that, based on the political leadership’s directives, to complete the implementation of the subway network, one of the most important green and environment-friendly means of transportation, which is implemented according to the latest international standards, and that the Ministry of Transport has developed a plan to implement the sixth line in a parallel path to the first “backbone” line. For the metro network, to relieve pressure on it, as the line starts from Al-Khosos area to New Maadi, with a length of about 35 km, and 27 stations. The third at Bab Al Shaeria station, and with the fourth line at Al Fustat station.
The minister pointed out that the Egyptian-French agreements in various fields, especially in the transport sector, come within the framework of supporting relations between the two countries, which are based on deep historical ties based on friendship and mutual trust, as this memorandum is considered within the framework of the joint roadmap that was signed in June The past between the Egyptian and French sides.
He added that the purpose of this memorandum is the integration of railway systems, in addition to the manufacture, supply, guarantee and maintenance of mobile units, including spare parts for a period of 8 years, in addition to spare parts for the massive overhaul, taking into account the localization plan for the manufacture of mobile units in cooperation with Egyptian companies. Specialized plants, the most important of which is the SEMAF factory of the Arab Organization for Industrialization.
