The Korean company Hyundai Rotem has signed a memorandum of understanding with France’s Colas-Rail and Orascom Construction on the study of launching a new tram project within the Administrative Capital that works with green hydrogen energy. Engineer Fadi Saba, assistant head of Rotem Company in Egypt, said in statements to “Amwal Al Ghad” that the study is scheduled to be presented to the Ministry of Transport during the first half of this year in preparation for moving forward with the implementation of the project after obtaining the necessary approvals. Saba said that the idea was discussed on the sidelines of the South Korean president's visit to Egypt last week, noting that he offered to use green hydrogen energy to implement projects in the transport and energy industry. On the other hand, the head of Rotem confirmed the arrangement of a loan to finance the project of manufacturing 320 metro cars inside the new railway factory, which is being implemented in East Port Said on an area of 100,000 acres under the supervision of the “Nerc” company. Rotem signed a memorandum of understanding with Nerke regarding the manufacture of 320 metro cars inside the company's factory. He stated that the company was able to supply 18 metro trains to the National Authority for Tunnels out of a total of 32 trains contracted within the third metro line project. The contract for the supply of 32 metro trains includes the manufacture of 10 of them inside the Simav factory of the Arab Organization for Industrialization. "Rotem" was able to supply 20 new metro trains to work inside the first line of the metro, as part of the state's plan to develop the line. The Ministry of Transport announced investing more than 640 million dollars to develop the metro line, which includes the purchase of new units, as well as the modernization of signaling systems for railways. The ministry is working on implementing electric traction projects such as the electrified train and the express train, which will require the manufacture of metro cars.
