Official sources at the National Authority for Tunnels confirmed that the sixth batch of new air-conditioned trains contracted for the second line with the Korean Hyundai Rotem Company is expected to arrive within days. The sources added that the Korean company is supplying the new trains deal, at a total cost of 130 million dollars, in addition to 63 million Egyptian pounds, as it includes 6 new trains, including the supply of necessary spare parts for a period of eight years after the warranty period. The National Authority for Tunnels received a monthly train of the 6 contracted trains, and with its full arrival, the number of air-conditioned trains operating on the second line will reach 10 out of a total of 45 trains. These trains are financed through a soft loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the state’s public treasury. The new trains have many distinctive specifications, as they enjoy a high-capacity air conditioning system and were provided with a safe passage that allows the transfer of passengers between cars for more comfort in normal operating conditions. They were also equipped with television cameras installed at the front of the train for central monitoring of the railway. Inside the cars there are LCD screens for use in Provide passengers with information about the trip and can be used commercially in the broadcast of paid commercials, and above the doors there is a screen to inform passengers of the name of the final station before they board the train. Spaces for wheelchairs were also allocated, and they were provided with fixing devices to help people with special needs in the process of transportation. The carriages were also provided with maps above the passenger doors from the inside showing the train's path through light bulbs to help the hearing impaired.
