  1. The electric train (West Port Said Port - Abu Qir Port in Alexandria)


    Within the framework of the private sector’s participation in establishing the infrastructure for railway projects in addition to management and operation, it was planned to establish an electric train line north of the Delta linking Port Said and the city of Abu Qir in Alexandria, with a length of about 250 km, with 14 stations, and passing through 6 governorates (Port Said - Dakahlia - Damietta). – Kafr El Sheikh – El Beheira – Alexandria) parallel to the international coastal road and serving new industrial and urban development sites along the route, all the way to New Abu Qir to implement an interchange station to connect with the Alexandria Metro line (Abu Qir – Misr Station). On 11/23/2020, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Authority for Tunnels, the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, and the consortium of companies (Al-Didi Group - Gama Construction - Al-Raed Engineering Consulting Office) to prepare feasibility studies for establishing, managing and operating an electric train project for passengers and goods linking (Gharb Port Port Said - Abu Qir Port in Alexandria) provided that the implementation of the project begins between the cities of Damietta and New Mansoura, and the establishment, management and operation of the dry port scheduled to be established in the city of New Damietta with the BOT system or whatever the study concludes.

  2. About the project


    Develop and enhance the infrastructure in the North Delta region through establishing and operating an advanced railway network with electric traction in cooperation between the public and private sectors. Serving many major cities in the northern Delta, such as Port Said - Damietta - Rashid, Alexandria, and new cities such as New Damietta, New Mansoura, New Rashid, and the industrial areas of Motobas, Damietta, and Gamasa. Establishing development hubs for the cities through which it passes, such as the city of West Port Said and the Furniture City in Damietta. Serving and developing ports and logistics centers in Port Said, Damietta, Abu Qir, Alexandria, and Dekheila. Maximizing investments and increasing the added value of land for many production, industry and investment areas in the northern Delta. Linking the development axes to the current network of railways, sea ports and dry ports to maximize the transport of goods between these ports to achieve economic and social integration and open areas of sustainable development as follows: - Linking the ports overlooking the coast (East Al-Tafria Port - Port Said Port - Damietta Sea Port - Abu Qir Port). Connecting the cities of (Port Said - Damietta - New Damietta - Gamasa - New Mansoura - Baltim - Edku - Abu Qir). Connection with the dry port scheduled to be established in New Damietta City. Connection with existing railways in the canal cities (Suez - Ismailia - Port Said). Contributing to facilitating the movement of passengers and goods on the international coastal road, and it will have a positive impact on the economic and commercial activity in the cities, industrial areas, and ports with which it is linked, as it helps in the movement of exports and imports, as well as in offering products to the local market.

  3. The works of the first phase “pre-feasibility studies”


    The study included a consortium of companies (Al-Didi Group - Gama Construction - Al-Raed Engineering Consulting Office) collecting and analyzing data in the study area - preparing studies on the size of demand for transport - technical and financial studies of the proposed alternatives to the project path and determining the optimal path for the project - topographic - geological - hydrological / hydraulic - Geotechnical - Studies of the initial requirements for the railway, signaling, communications, management and operation systems - Studies of the electrical supply for the project - Environmental studies - Financial and economic evaluation studies - The initial investment plan for the project, which was completed on 11/22/2021. The final report of the first phase of the study was submitted on 12/7/2021, which recommended conducting detailed feasibility studies to create investments for partnership between the government and private sectors to obtain foreign investments (other than direct investments)

  4. The works of the phase 2 “detailed feasibility study”


    The term of the memorandum of understanding was extended until 11/22/2022 to prepare the second phase of studies for detailed feasibility studies and to prepare investment plans to cover the cost of construction, operation and maintenance without the state bearing any financial burdens.
    The coalition was addressed on 12/12/2021 to inform the commission of its scope of work in the second phase of studies, as it was received on 12/12/2021 and is being studied by the commission.
