4. electric high-speed train (Ain Sokhna - Marsa Matrouh ) Green Line

   
   

   Electric High Speed Rail (HSR) is a new type of rail passenger transportation that is faster and more comfortable than a regular train by making a design that allows trains to run at speeds of 250 km/h. The express train has a higher line capacity, which reduces traffic congestion, achieves higher passenger safety, a better impact on the environment, aids in economic development, enhances the infrastructure of the area and helps contain urban sprawl. This project will contribute to linking the New Administrative Capital and the new cities with the railway network to transport passengers and goods through a fast, modern and safe means of transportation. Implementation of a fast electric train line (passengers & goods) linking the city of Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea coast to the city of Matrouh on the Mediterranean coast.

5. Preliminary data about the project

   
   

   The track extends from Sokhna to October Gardens, then branches south to Al-Ayat and branches north to Alexandria, El Alamein and Marsa Matrouh, with a length of about 660 km and 21 stations (13 high-speed train stations and 8 regional stations). It will be connected to the second line at October Gardens station . The design speed of the project is 250 km/h, the operating speed of high-speed electric trains is 230 km/h, regional electric trains are 160 km/h and electric freight locomotives are 120 km/h.

6. Contracting to implement the project

   
   

   On 9/1/2021, a contract was signed with the alliance of companies (Siemens Germany - Orascom Construction - Arab Contractors) led by the German company Siemens to implement the Green Line (Sokhna / El Alamein / Marsa Matrouh) high-speed electric train project with a length of 660 km.
